Happy Icon Friday! This week’s icon is Lucille Ball, and I have to say, she is one of my favorites! Her character on I Love Lucy was modeled on her real life persona and so was her wardrobe and styling. She hired two stylists during the show, and hand picked them carefully knowing that they would have to be familiar with her personal style.
Although those long pleated skirts are synonymous with the 1950s, I always loved Lucy in pants. In my mind, when I think of the show, the first image that pops into my head are her cigarette trousers. I love how fun her pants looked as well – matching well with her slapstick comedy. Interesting to note that in 1952, Lucille Ball was the first actor to appear on television pregnant! Giving rise of course to all the fabulously modest maternity wear she modeled on the show
Have a great weekend!
